Soccer Mommy releases her new album ‘Evergreen’ this Friday, October 25. It will be their fourth album and first since ‘Sometimes, Forever’. Advances from him have been released as diverse as the orchestrated opening ballad ‘Lost’, that ‘M’ in which some flutes are introduced, or the half-grunge ‘Driver’. The fourth preview and the most pop song is ‘Abigail’, which we selected as Song of the Day today.
If The Cure are offering us dark previews of their new album, this song is reminiscent of the brighter The Cure, placing itself in the indie pop of the 80s, for example, ‘Just Like Heaven’.
Instead, the theme is an homage to the purple-haired character from the game ‘Stardew Valley’. The first verse jokes, “Abigail, it’s not fair, I’m drowning in your purple hair, all the pretty clothes you’re wearing, and everything underneath.” If the keyboard solo makes you think of The Cure as much as the guitars, there is a bridge that is pure girl group from the 60s.
‘Evergreen’ was made by Allison at Maze Studios in Atlanta with producer Ben H. Allen III (Deerhunter, Animal Collective, Youth Lagoon, Belle and Sebastian). According to the press release, it “animates Allison’s experience with loss through soundscapes that can evoke a sad-eyed daydream or an ecstatic weekend getaway.”
Soccer Mommy has recently announced a four-month tour of North America, the United Kingdom and Europe to present this ‘Evergreen’. He will be in Madrid on April 27 and in Barcelona on April 28.
