This afternoon the Oscar nominations were published. The Spanish film ‘Sirât’ had the challenge of transcending categories and has finally achieved two nominations, both for Best Foreign Language Film, as expected, and for Best Sound. Perhaps because he will not start as favorite, Oliver Laxe has already declared that we have to “enjoy the moment.”
‘The Sinners’, directed by Ryan Coogler, achieves up to 16 nominations, making history as the highest nominee of the 98 years of the Oscars. Another great contender is ‘Frankenstein’, which gets 9 nominations, but Guillermo del Toro fails to make it into the Best Director category.
For best film, as is usual in recent years, up to 10 films are up for grabs: ‘One Battle After Another’, ‘Hamnet’, ‘The Secret Agent’, ‘Sentimental Value’, ‘Avatar’, ‘The Sinners’, ‘Marty Supreme’, ‘Bugonia’, ‘F1’, and ‘Train Dreams’.
In best song we find ‘Golden’ by the Kpop Demon Hunters, as well as ‘Sweet Dreams of Joy’ by ‘Viva Verdi’, the song ‘Train Dreams’ by Nick Cave and Bryce Dessner for the eponymous ‘Train Dreams’ and ‘I lied to You’ by ‘The Sinners’. As is tradition, Diane Warren is nominated for ‘Dear Me’ for ‘Relentless’, although it must be remembered that she has never won.
