Sia is in the middle of the biggest legal battle of her life. The artist filed for divorce from Daniel Bernad in March of this year after two years of marriage. Now, she is fighting for custody of her son as accusations of drug addiction and possession of child pornography go back and forth. This was reported by Billboard.
At the time, Sia filed for divorce from Bernad citing “irreconcilable differences” and was left with primary custody of their 19-month-old son, Somersault. This Monday, her ex-husband, who is also seeking monthly compensation of $250,000, asked to take care of their son after alleging that Sia had relapsed into drugs: “I am the only safe and reliable figure for our son. “I am a doctor, young, healthy and have no criminal history or addiction problems,” he wrote in a statement.
For his ex-partner, he requests supervised visits with his son as long as he has previously undergone a breathalyzer test, in addition to random drug tests. Sia alleged this Tuesday that she has been “completely sober for 6 months,” that Bernad is really the one who parties and does drugs, and that this was one of the reasons why she chose to separate from him.
Sia alleges that Dan is using her “resolute and documented” journey to sobriety as a tool to “distort the facts and diminish my credibility.” She asks to keep full custody of her son, as has been the case this past summer.
In fact, legal documents indicate not only that Bernad accepted this deal, but that he is the one who was supposed to have supervised visits when he was under police investigation after they allegedly found child pornography on his computer’s hard drive.
The police closed the case due to lack of evidence, while Bernad alleged that Sia “planted” the material on his PC. For her part, Sia says she does not feel comfortable with Bernad being around her son without supervision.
