In celebration of 20 years of ‘Oral Fixation’ (Vol 1 & 2) and 30 years of ‘Pies descalzos’, Shakira presents joint action with Spotify. The ‘Anniversaries’ series allows us to measure the impact and stories of the creation of both albums, and above all it represents a new EP exclusively for Spotify, with versions of both works.
The EP begins by recreating the electric guitars, in the rock aspect, of ‘Pies descalzos, Suenos Blancos’; while their hit ‘Antología’ is now a somewhat more rhythmic pop-rock song. ‘January Day’ also appears, with Shakira’s voice in its most girlish version, although it will be the new version of ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ that steals the headlines.
And it features Ed Sheeran and the man of fashion, Beéle. Edward Christopher basically plays Wyclef Jean, and plays the guitar, as seen in the video uploaded to Spotify, while Beéle appears on the bridges. They accompany a 14-piece string ensemble, which has also brought a special shine to ‘The Wall’.
The press release reveals a few curiosities about these albums. These albums exceed 6.1 billion global views, of which 955 correspond to the United States. However, Mexico is the country that listens to Shakira the most, above Colombia itself.
Although the most interesting thing is that more than 50% of the views of ‘Oral Fixation’ come from people under 30 years of age. On the contrary, half of the views of ‘Pies descalzos’ correspond to an audience between 30 and 44 years old. In other words, the audience that listens to ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ or ‘La Torture’ is much younger than you expected, and his singer-songwriter side is enjoyed by a more adult audience.
