With $236 million raised worldwide, ‘Michael’ is already the sixth highest-grossing film of 2026 and one of the most successful musical biopics in history. The public is eager to remember the best side of Michael, since the film starring his nephew, Jaafar Jackson, concludes at the time of the Bad Tour and avoids accusations of sexual abuse of minors.
The film’s producer has suggested that a ‘Michael’ sequel could exist, hinting that the abuse allegations would be addressed in that sequel. Now, Adam Fogelson, head of Lionsgate, has confirmed on The Town With Matt Belloni podcast that there is a “very high possibility” that the sequel to ‘Michael’ will be produced, and that filming could take place this year and next.
Of course, Fogelson has not dared to confirm that the sequel will include the accusations of abuse, but remember that the first script did address them, before Jackson’s estate interfered in the production. Fogelson has explained, however, that “there is an enormous amount of music… and life experiences separate and apart from the accusations… that would be enough on their own for more than a second film.”
There would be millions of episodes from Jackson’s life; professionally, of course, his famous performance in the 1993 Super Bowl, prior to the allegations; and countless scandals related to the debate surrounding his skin whitening, a product of his vitiligo; his controversial marriage to Lisa Marie Presley; the dispute over the Beatles catalogue; or its close relationship with cosmetic surgery operations. However, would it be possible to talk about the album ‘HIStory’ (1995) without alluding to the accusations, those that so impacted his public image, his career and his finances?
The public is clearly willing to continue enjoying Michael Jackson’s music, which revolutionized the music industry so much. Currently, Jackson places up to two hits within Spotify’s global top 10: ‘Billie Jean’, at number 4, and ‘Beat It’, at number 9, in addition to placing other classics throughout the top 50, top 100 or the entire global top 200.
