10 bands will perform on January 2 and 3 in search of a place in the final of the Gang War of the Current Festivalwhich will take place on Saturday, January 4 in the Foundry room in Logroño.
In mid-September, the eleventh edition of the Actual Gang War was called. After the deadline closed at the beginning of November, the jury has already made the selection of the ten semi-finalists among the more than 130 proposals presented: Delaire (Rock, Madrid), GuillTerm (Nu-Rock, Burgos), Exuvia (Stoner, Punk, Rock, Navarra), Kalumny (Punk Rock, Teruel), Anointing (Rock, La Rioja), Twin Forest (Alternative rock, Post-hardcore, Valencia), Sweet Q (Indie, Pop, Rock, Madrid), Dork (Psychedelic Rock, La Rioja), Izeta (Alternative pop, Granada) and Capros (Rock, Barcelona). The first 5 will perform in the semifinal on Thursday, January 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the Foundry Room, and the next 5 will do so on Friday, January 3. The grand final between the 4 finalist bands will take place on Saturday, January 4, and will feature the Riojan rock group Ohmnicides as guest artists. Admission for each day is free.
In this edition the jury will be made up of the musicians Verónica Zaldívar López-Davalillo, Silvia Arenzana and Juankar González Cabano, the journalist Sanda Sainz, the musical programmer Jesús Pérez Caballero and the professor of the Music Area of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of UNIR, Manuel Martínez Barneto. They will be the ones who choose two bands among the semi-finalists of each of the days 2 and 3 of January who will be the ones to participate in the grand final on Saturday, January 4 (Sala Fundcción, 7 p.m.). The jury will also be the one who chooses the winning group of this year’s War of the Bands whose prize is valued at 2,500 euros and includes the contract for a performance in the next edition of Actual. At the same time, the public will be able to vote during the semi-finals for their favorite band and with their votes they will decide the winning group of the public prize valued at €300.
On the other hand, cinema will once again be the protagonist with the screening at the Bretón Theater of titles recognized in major international festivals, all of them national previews at the festival Currentas well as in the matinees at the Rafael Azcona Film Archive. The 20th edition of the ‘Sueños en Corto’ Short Film Contest also becomes part of Actual Festival, with the celebration of its awards ceremony on January 5 at the Café Bretón.
