The ninth edition of the SantasPascuas Festival will once again liven up the Pamplona Christmas with concerts by bands such as Los Planetas, Alcalá Norte, Carlangas, Nudozurdo, Albert Plá, Chill Mafia, Melenas, Juárez, Marte Lasarteamong others.
Today the new edition of the SantasPascuas Festival begins with the inauguration of the BritPop exhibition 1987-2011. This exhibition is an approach to one of the most important eras of the British music scene told first-hand by two of its main protagonists: Alan McGeefounder of the Creation Records and Poptones label, who discovered artists such as Primal Scream, Oasis, My Blody Valentines, The Libertines, among others; and Mike SmithA&R at MCA and discoverer of bands like Blur, Leviation and Smashing Pumpkins, as well as global president of Downtown Music Publishing and CEO of Warner/Chapell Music UK. Both are key figures in the British music industry and are considered the founding fathers of the Brit Pop movement of the ’90s, a musical movement that deeply marked this generation and subsequent ones.
In addition to the exhibition, which can be enjoyed until January 4 at Civican (Iruña-Pamplona), the program includes talks by Alan McGee and Mike Smith (both in English with simultaneous translation), two educational workshops given by Al Macaulay, a plastic exhibition of oil paintings on canvas made by Mike Smith and the concert of the English band 3Head. Alan McGee’s talk is titled “Creation Stories” and tells of his experiences at the Creations label and how he managed to generate a story telling around the BritPop movement. Mike Smith’s talk is titled “My live in BritPop” and tells all the ins and outs of the industry in the 90s and how it has evolved to the present day. The educational workshops taught by Al Macaulay (musician, teacher and founder of the British band TinderSticks) have these themes: “Start your own BritPop band”focused on marketing, communication, design and strategy for new artists, and “Create your own BritPop anthem”in which with computers and mobile phones we will be able to create and understand the key ingredients of BritPop, paying special attention to the instruments, musical arrangements and lyrics of the movement.
As for the concerts of this edition, groups such as Chill Mafia, Melenas, Juárez, Brecha, Carlangas, Nudozurdo, Albert Pla and The Surprise Band, Los Planetas and Al Safir. Due to health problems of one of the musicians, the Alcalá Norte and Marte Lasarte concert that was going to be held on December 25 is moved to February 9).
