Sam Fender and Olivia Dean have made their single ‘Rein Me In’ the longest-running number 1 on the UK charts, staying in the position for 19 consecutive weeks. The record had been unbeaten for 73 years, with Frankie Laines’ ‘I Believe’ spending 18 weeks in the top 1 back in 1953.
The song was originally released as part of Fender’s ‘People Watching’ album in February 2025, but the version featuring Olivia Dean didn’t arrive until June of the same year. It wasn’t an instant hit. It was not until February 2026 when it reached the top of the charts. After winning the BRIT Award for Song of the Year, he never moved from there.
‘Rein Me In’ is a nice anthemic pop rock song about screwing up when your heart is broken. Thus, Olivia and Sam constantly ask their friends not to “stop them” from their desire to lose control. Regarding the record achieved, Fender stated that he was “completely speechless” when he heard the news.
