Sabrina Carpenter sweeps and will leave Fontaines DC without a top 1 in the UK

Irish band Fontaines DC managed to reach number 2 in the UK with their second album ‘A Hero’s Death’, and number 1 with their third, ‘Skinty Fia’. This last scenario will unfortunately not be repeated with the outstanding ‘Romance’, even though this will be their best debut in terms of numbers.

‘Romance’ has already sold over 31,000 copies in the UK, with several days of counting still to go. That figure would be enough to reach number 1 in almost any week. In fact, Fontaines DC are on track to double what they sold of their previous album in the first week, 19,000 copies. But that’s not going to be enough to hold back the Sabrina Carpenter hurricane.

Sabrina Carpenter has been a global hit with the singles leading off her new album, first with ‘Espresso’ and then with ‘Please Please Please’, and now with ‘Taste’, which also aims to achieve new number 1s. And that materializes in a spectacular first week in English-speaking countries.

‘Short n’ Sweet’ has sold the equivalent of 70,000 copies in the UK during the first half of the week. Almost 55,000 of those units are physical, a testament to the loyalty and dedication of a whole new generation of fans. Curious because Sabrina Carpenter’s previous album ‘Emails I Can’t Send’ never went above number 41 in the UK charts, although it has managed to reach gold status (100,000 units) little by little. The new ‘Short n’ Sweet’ will equal that gold status in a matter of days.

In her home country of the United States, Sabrina Carpenter’s figures are even more spectacular. HDD’s forecast is for ‘Short n’ Sweet’ to be number 1 on the Billboard 200 with more than 317,000 units. Of these, 150,000 copies will be physical.

Despite the lack of ambition in terms of production, ‘Short n’ Sweet’ is loaded with several surprises in terms of composition. The excellent ‘Good Graces’, the mischievous ‘Bed Chem’, the eighties pop of ‘Juno’ or even ballads and country songs like ‘Coincidence’ and ‘Dumb & Poetic’ guarantee that the album will perform excellently in the charts until Christmas, and beyond.
