Sabrina Carpenter today launched her expected ‘Man’s Best Friend’. He arrives a year after the successful ‘Short N’ Sweet ‘and would be the second album in this new stage of his career, although he is actually the seventh in his discography. After the country dyes of ‘Manchild’, Sabrina surrenders the “responsible boys” in the fantasy album of ‘Tears’. It is the song of the day, and paints another resounding success.
Before the departure of the single, it was already seen that those “tears” of the title were not going to be conventional. Indeed, ‘Tears’ is another anachronistic single in which Sabrina brings out her irreverent humor, although precisely in this case it consists in subverting the expectations of the listener. Musically, remember a more sophisticated version of ‘Espresso’, maintaining the prominence in the chorus, with rather concise verses.
The American artist sings about the type of man who really gets horny: “I get wet when thinking about you / being a responsible man / treating me as you should.” He then reveals why ‘Tears’ is titled Thus: “Tears run through my thighs.” Carpenter also likes men who wash the dishes and show “a little communication.”
In the video clip, an elegant and demure Sabrina crashes with the car in the middle of rural America and what seemed to be aimed at being a horror movie ends up becoming a seventies drag party and very Camp. It is a tribute to the classic ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’.
Starring Colman Domingo, the clip ends badly, as it should be: «Sorry, someone has to die in each video. You have to give people what they want ».
