Rozalén defends her actions before the Pope: “It is not fair to generalize”

Rozalén performed this past Sunday, June 7, before Pope Leo XIV at the Movistar Arena, in an act shared with other personalities such as Antonio Banderas and Carolina Marín. Although she herself assures in an Instagram statement that she knows that she does not have to “give explanations”, the artist from Albacete has explained and defended her interpretation of ‘And I searched’.

The first thing he does is thank those people who have understood “how symbolic and how rewarding it has been for me and my family that someone like me sings in front of the Pope.” Then, she proceeds to explain her family history, saying that she is the daughter of “a priest secularized after ten years for falling in love with my mother” who organized all kinds of cultural and sports activities in his town. He describes him as “a man of peace and mediator.”

Rozalén continues explaining her relationship with the Church, the same one that made her “sing, act, volunteer, have social conscience and be inclusive.” Next, she also addresses “the dark part of the institution” which is “well known and indefensible”, and also the reason why the singer-songwriter would have received criticism.

«The cases of pedophilia are chilling. Nor do I share their positions regarding the role of women, the LGBT community, abortion, dignified death…,” Rozalén clarifies. On the other hand, he is in favor of “the anti-war position, concern for AI and empathy for immigrants.” She says that when she was offered the opportunity she thought of her family and her father: “It was like honoring him for the years that I know were hard for him.”

Rozalén ends the statement with a lesson: «I learn over the years that it is not fair to generalize. We tend to stay with the superficial part of things, but so many times, by scratching a little, we manage to understand each other.
