Rosalía shines with ‘La Perla’ on Jimmy Fallon, who quotes Los40

Rosalía went to Jimmy Fallon tonight, located in New York, to present ‘LUX’, her fourth album, which is conquering the global charts and today will debut on the Spanish charts.

The interview begins with Fallon citing headlines from reviews of the album, including that of Los40, or “the Forty,” as Fallon says. Rosalía then explains her creative process, her decision behind singing in 13 languages on the album (“I like to learn”), and as she did with David Broncano in La Revuelta, she teaches Fallon how to perform vocal warm-ups. To practice, they sing ‘La Perla’ together.

Rosalía and Fallon also play a game in which Jimmy must guess whether a phrase Rosalía says to him in Spanish is “seductive, insulting, or nonsense.”

While Rosalía chose ‘Reliquia’ to present ‘LUX’ at the LOS40 Music Awards gala, during her visit to Fallon’s show she chose to perform ‘La Perla’, which remains in 13th place in Spotify’s global top. Vila Tobella begins the performance standing on a tower of mattresses similar to that of the story of ‘The Princess and the Pea’ (1835) – as a reader rightly indicates to this medium – and ends it standing on the stage.

Rosalía’s performance is accompanied by subtitles with a translation of the lyrics of ‘La Perla’, the same adaptation that appears in the physical booklet of the album.
