Romythird part of The XX and one of the great icons of British electronic and dance pop, says goodbye to the stage that opened his album “Mid Air” (23) with “Love Who You Love”, a song that is a true statement of principles.
“Love Who You Love” serves as the final chapter of “Mid Air”which was the first solo album by the singer and guitarist of The XX, and she does so by reminding us that you should love whoever you want, all from a queer perspective and as personal as all the songs that have been part of her career in the last two years.
The song has production by BloodPop, Romy and Jamie xxand seeks to convey a “powerful message of liberation.” In Romy’s own words: “It’s a proudly queer love song. It was also very important for me to recognize that the world is STILL such a challenging place for many of us to show our love openly in the LGBTQ+ community. In reaction to that, I wanted to write a song that not only celebrated and uplifted love, but also called for change. The story of resilience and togetherness in the face of incredible challenges within the community is very powerful. Personally, finding friends, family and people I admire and like learning through queer clubs has made me feel much less alone and braver in many aspects of life. These experiences and the people I have met continue to be very inspiring for the music I am making and this song is intended to be a love letter of visibility and pride. No one can take away the love you feel, it is yours.
Let us remember on the other hand, that The XX will be performing at the next edition of the Barcelona Primavera Sound festival.
