Robbie Williams dropped that he really wanted to release new music during the promotional interviews of his undervalued biographical film, ‘Better Man’. Between tours, family and that other project, his latest studio album, ‘The Heavy Entertainment Show’, came out in 2016.
When there is very little time for his new tour to visit the United Kingdom and Barcelona, he premieres the first advance of his next album. And it comes with striking title: the album is called ‘Britpop’. And no, he was not a representative of that movement, but he was there (“Liam Gallagher comes out in his film”), made “British pop” in 1995 and also offers an additional explanation.
Robbie Williams says that it has been proposed to write the album he wanted to write when Take That left in 1995. That was just the year of the dispute between Oasis and Blur.
The artist says in a press release that includes the NME: «It was the top of the Britpop and the golden age of British music. I have worked with some of my idols on this album, it is raw, there are more guitars and there are more uptempo music and hymns than usual. There is something “Brit” and also something “pop”, I am immensely proud of this work and excited that you listen to it.
The first sample of the album, which receives the appropriate name of ‘Rocket’, goes beyond the 90s and invites the guitars to Tony Iommi, founder of Black Sabbath and for many “father of heavy metal.” Robbie says that “we can imagine that his guitars are massive.” And so it is. ‘Britpop’ will be in autumn, without a certain date, but what is known is its fun cover, 100% Robbie Williams.
