Today, August 23rd, Fontaines DC’s new album, the Album of the Week, is released, as is Sabrina Carpenter’s, which we discussed diagonally. In addition, new albums by Magdalena Bay, Mura Masa, The Softies, Sofi Tukker, Illuminati Hotties and Gillian Welch & David Rawlings are being released.
Another of the day’s standout long-form releases is a hip-hop classic that is being reissued today on streaming platforms: ‘Days Before Rodeo’, Travis Scott’s second mixtape, released in 2014.
Among the new singles of the week, we have highlighted on the cover three as guitar-driven as the new ones from Amyl and the Sniffers; Geordie Greep, who has left Black Midi to venture out on his own; and the glam metal revelation DIAMANTE, who is preparing his third album.
New singles have been released these days by Yaeji, Alan Sparhawk (from Low) or Katie Gavin from MUNA singing about “casual drug use”. And, among the releases of Friday, the new single by Coldplay stands out, or, on the national level, the Afrobeat of Rouss or Albany and Yung Beef (and Somadamantina and others) firing their “bisexual rifle”… and using an image of Trump in their assassination attempt.
Among the curiosities of the day, Sam Smith re-records ‘Stay with Me’ with Japanese pop legend Hikaru Utada, and Clark reinvents the Carpenters’ ‘Superstar’ in an electronic key… actually an original by the forgotten group Delaney & Bonnie.
