In recent weeks there have been few artists who have communicated the cancellation of their confirmed performances in festivals such as Sónar or FIB, in protest of their links with Supersruct Entertainment, a company controlled by the KKR investment fund. The most recent to join this wave of cancellations has been Judeline, who has decided not to act in the FIB.
However, none of the artists who have made this decision probably have the media weight of resident. The Puerto Rican rapper has canceled his presentations at the FIB of Benicàssim and the Morriña Festival of A Coruña for the links of both events with KKR. He says that he cannot participate in any event that contributes to a genocide, even if it is indirectly. “
“It turns out that two of the festivals in which I had to present myself in Spain – the Benicàssim International Festival (FIB) and the Morriña Festival – are indirectly linked to an American investment fund called KKR,” says Resident, who claims to have verified the information with friends journalists. “This fund invests and financially supports Israeli companies involved in military technology, surveillance and espionage systems, in addition to financing real estate projects in illegal settlements within occupied Palestinian territories, thus contributing, indirectly, to the genocide and systematic violations of human rights against the Palestinian people.”
“I want to publicly declare that I cannot participate – not for a second – at all that is connected to this tragedy, however indirect that connection is,” he says. “With all respect, and offering my most sincere apologies to all the people who bought tickets to see me, officially announced that I will not introduce myself at these festivals.”
The artist concludes: «I do not know if this decision will have legal consequences for me, but, honestly, I don’t care. My position in this regard is clear; It has always been and always will be ».
