Chappell Roan and Reneé Rapp are the first two openly lesbian women who manage to occupy the top positions of British success lists simultaneously. A milestone for global queer representation. ‘The Subway’, the new single of Roan, enters directly to the top 1 of singles in the United Kingdom, and ‘Bite Me’, the second Rapp, opens in the top 1 albums.
‘Bite me’, which unbrids from the first position a compilation of Oasis, has registered exactly 15,643 units in the United Kingdom. Of that total, 5,821 correspond to CDs, 4,541 to vinyl, 340 to cassettes, 205 to digital downloads and 4,736 to equivalent sales generated by streaming. ‘Snow Angel’, the debut of Rapp, published in 2023, did not go from the 7th place in the islands.
The Rapp case is curious, since the North Carolina artist does not currently have any topic in the British singles list, or among the most radiated. ‘Leave me Alone’ did not go from position 69 and neither ‘Mad’ nor ‘Why are you still here?’ They have registered any entry. No ‘bite me’ appears either among the most reproduced in the Top 200 of Spotify in the United Kingdom.
Rapp’s success is probably due to the power of the fan phenomenon, as often happens with K-Pop artists. His fans base, formed over the years thanks to his appearances on television and theater, and then consolidated with his musical career, has come in mass – whether to physical or virtual stores – to buy the album. However, for now, the phenomenon is not yet transversal.
In the United States, Reneé Rapp, and therefore its main market, the situation is the same: the Daily Double Hits portal estimates that ‘Bite will open me around the top 3 of the Billboard Hot 100 with approximately 64,000 equivalent units. However, no single of ‘bite me’ is among the most successful in the country or among the most reproduced in streaming.
‘Bite me’ includes such painters as ‘Leave Me Alone’ or the recent song of the day ‘Kiss it kiss it’. We leave you with a live performance of the new single, ‘Shy’.
As for Chappell Roan, she is also the first artist who achieves two numbers 1 of singles in the United Kingdom in 2025: the first with ‘Pink Pony Club’, the second with ‘The Subway’. The global streamings of this issue already exceed 40 million.
