Pulp hug, hysterical, love and northern soul

‘More’, the first pulp album in 24 years, which will be released on June 6. The first advance was ‘Spike Island’ and the second is a snatching theme called ‘Got to Have Love’. Our song of the day today is one of the most accessible compositions of Pulp since the time of ‘Different Class’, in the retro sense of the word. In fact, his video is a tribute to Northern Soul.

Pulp already had a spell song, ‘Feelingcalledlove’, but this case is very different. Explains Jarvis Cocker himself:

«’Love’ is a word that I could not say until I approached 40. I listened to love songs all the time, but I could not use the word in real life. The lyrics of this song are me having a conversation with myself about that state of things. I gave myself a real talk to myself. Now I have learned to say, keeping my face serious. “You have to have love.” Oh, finally, you have done it ».

The video directed by Jarvis Cocker himself is based on images of the documentary ‘Wigan Casino’ of 1977 directed by Tony Palmer: they are dancers from Northern Soul. «I love to dance, and this is the best dance recording I’ve seen in my life. I first saw it in the video ‘Fiorucci made me hardcore’ by Mark Leckey », confesses Cocker.

In addition to acting in the next Bilbao BBK Live, Pulp have organized a series of “listening parties” of their new album worldwide.

The stores chosen in Spain are Marilians and under the volcano in Madrid, Oldies in Valencia, Bora Bora and pacemaker in Granada, Revolver and the wrong genius in Barcelona and Bloody Mary in Irún. The Spanish date is May 29 and the schedules are available on their website.
