Primavera Sound puts its Latin American festivals on hold

The festival itself has announced the news through an official statement Primavera Sound parks its Latin American festivals, that is, those that were announced for Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay.

At this point the lineup of the festivals that Primavera Sound had scheduled for the coming months had not yet been announced. Buenos Aires (Argentina), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Montevideo (Uruguay) and Asunción (Paraguay).

According to the Primavera Sound statement, the main reasons are that the Barcelona event’s way of working has come up against external difficulties in matters of organization and production that would not meet the “rigorous quality standards” of the festival “wherever it is held.” The statement goes on to say: “Our reunion plans scheduled for the end of November and beginning of December of this year, with festivals in Buenos Aires and São Paulo and Primavera Day in Montevideo and Asunción, will unfortunately have to wait. Current circumstances lead us to announce that Primavera Sound will not take place in Latin America in 2024, because external difficulties prevent us from holding events that live up to what the public who have supported us so much deserve (…) This is undoubtedly a difficult decision, taken after many months of work and after undertaking numerous avenues to be able to hold these events with guarantees, especially in the current situation of the music industry and its challenges. “Having exhausted all possibilities, we have to be cautious and now put all our energy into future plans,”

In any case, what the statement also suggests is that this is not the end of Primavera Sound’s movements in Latin America, but rather a parenthesis, so we will see what happens in the near future.

Let us remember, as the statement points out, that the festivals in Uruguay and Paraguay were one-day events and not three or four as Primavera Sound has accustomed us to. As for the refund of tickets, the statement indicates that the sales platforms will contact all ticket and season ticket buyers for the four events.
