Placebo have composed a soundtrack for the new production of the Royal Shakespeare Companywhich will be released this April in the United Kingdom.
The duo has joined the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) to create a new soundtrack for the company’s new production “The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui” of Bertolt Brechtwhich has been updated by Stephen Sharkey and directed by Sean Linnen. The production, which will be presented at the Swan Theater Stratford-upon-Avon of the April 11 to the May 30stars Mark Gatiss and is described as an “unleashed gangster spectacle, set in the alleys of Chicago’s criminal underworld.”
In the words of Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal: “We are very honored and excited to collaborate for the first time with the Royal Shakespeare Company to create the soundtrack for the adaptation “The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui” by Bertolt Brecht. Thematically, this cautionary tale feels more urgent and prescient than ever, and its relevance to today’s world is deeply chilling. “We are excited about Placebo’s new music being performed nightly at the Swan Theater and can only hope we have done justice to this great work.”
This is the first time the duo has embarked on composing an original soundtrack for a play. As the director of the play states, “Placebo is one of the most audacious, original and imaginative rock bands in history, so it is incredibly exciting that they have come together to compose a new soundtrack for our new production.”
