Pharrell Williams has shown his poise and grace at the premiere of his new autobiographical film, after a PETA protester jumped on stage. It’s the perfect definition of ‘kill ’em with kindness’.
The renowned American producer and artist is in the midst of presenting his atypical biopic centered on LEGO animation, ‘PIECE BY PIECE’. Directed by Morgan Neville, the film will be released in American theaters on October 11.
At the premiere of the film at the Toronto Film Festival, just after the film was over, a woman went up on stage to protest on behalf of animal rights with a sign that read: “Pharrell stops supporting the killing of animals for fashion,” in relation to his position as creative director at Louis Vuitton.
Pharrell’s response was everything you’d imagine coming from him: “You know what? You’re right,” he began to repeat in a friendly tone as the woman continued to scream.
The “God bless you” chants, eliciting applause from the audience, were also not lacking: “Please, a round of applause for her,” said Williams before she was finally led away. After what happened, Pharrell decided to address the situation: “We’re working on that right now. If she had just asked me, I would have told her. Instead, she wanted to repeat herself,” he concluded.
The film also stars notable figures from Pharrell’s inner circle, including Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg. They will all lend their voices to the character, as well as having their own LEGO avatar.
