Peter Gabriel We were surprised this summer with two novelties. On the one hand he has published a historical document-his performance in the first Womad of 1982-and, on the other hand, announces the Blu-ray edition of a live with orchestra of 2010.
The first Womad Festival, born of the efforts of Peter Gabriel himself, was held between July 16 and 18, 1982. It was the beginning of a great adventure that has combined music from various continents and has sent it to stages from all over the world and that still continues to be held in excellent form. In that first edition artists from different parts of the world acted as The Drummers of Burundi, today’s sauce, Prince Nico Mbarga or Musicians of the Nilebut also some of the most outstanding British names of that moment as Pigbag, Echo & The Bunnymen, Rip Rig and Panic, The Beat Or, of course, Peter Gabriel.
Now, Gabriel has shared that historical performance in which many of the songs of his room and indispensable album sounded for the first time. In fact, the concert was part of a series of shows that focused on unpublished material. Hence, seven of the nine songs later appeared in “IV” (82), which saw the light in September of that same year. The formation included, together with Gabriel, David Rhodes (guitar), John Giblin (bass), Larry Fast (keyboards), Jerry Marotta (drums), Peter Hammill (guitar and choirs) and the formation of percussions and Ekomé dance.
On the other hand, Gabriel has also announced the launch on October 10 of Blu-ray “Taking the Pulse”which collects a performance in Verona (Italy) of September 26, 2010 with The New Blood Orchestra – Finish musicians led by Ben Foster. The filming is the work of Anna Gabriel, while Melanie Gabriel and Anne Brun appear as guests.
You can buy it in pre-sale in this same link. Unfortunately there is no physical edition of “Live at Womad 1982”.
