Paula Koops, more mature than you remembered, on tour with GPS

Paula Koops is the closest thing we have to a Spanish Avril Lavigne, and she has been proving it since the pandemic. She achieved her first viral hit with ‘Línea 7’, which mixed the sound universe of the Canadian artist with C. Tangana. Almost two years after the release of her debut album, ‘MOTEL’, Koops is ready to hit the road with her more mature side.

“I can’t hate you, because that would be thinking about you,” the Madrid native sings in ‘Pídeme Forgiveness’, her latest release. Those who were left wanting more after Aitana’s ’11 REASONS’ era have just what they have been waiting for in Paula Koops. “I want you to ask me for forgiveness, not to forgive you / Tell me where you’re going to be, so I can get away,” he sings in one of his best choruses.

Although her career took off based on pure 2000s nostalgia and a clear image of a “punk princess”, based on songs like ‘bobo’ or ‘boyfriend of the year’, Koops has found a new authenticity in her latest singles. Of course, maintaining its marked style.

It is clear in the baladesque ‘even if you are not here’, one of his most solemn themes, which even has a hint of Van Gogh’s The Ear. Koops also shows that he is capable of evolving without losing his taste for instant and easy pop, in the best sense of the word, with ‘Se Supuesta’, one of his best and most catchy songs: “It was supposed to be for this January 2nd / We had a New Year’s hangover / Summer plans, you and I hand in hand,” he sings.

The renewed artist has just announced the tour ‘Los Lugares Where We Couldn’t Go’, with which she will visit 7 Spanish cities this year with Girando Por Salas. Koops will be in Vitoria, Logroño, Oviedo, Albacete, Valladolid, Palma de Mallorca and Almería. Tickets are now on sale on each venue’s website.
