Paul Weller has filed a lawsuit against the firm that managed his accounts, Harris and Trotter. The accounting and fiscal advisory firm decided to stop working with Weller after the musician publicly stated that Israel is “committing a genocide” against Palestine and defended the right of Palestine to “self -determination.”
The legal firm considers that Weller’s statements, particularly those that accuse Israel of perpetrating a genocide, are expressly “contrary to Israel” and that, “as a sign with Jewish roots and many Jewish partners, we are not willing to collaborate with someone who holds these opinions.”
The former Jam leader believes that Harris and Trotter’s decision discriminates illegally by his personal ideas or beliefs. Therefore, he has decided to fight his case through legal actions.
In the legal letter, Weller states that “I have always spoken against injustice, be it apartheid, ethnic cleaning or genocide” and insists that “what is happening with the Palestinian people in Gaza is a humanitarian catastrophe.” Weller reaffirms his conviction that the citizens of Palestine “have the right to self -determination, to dignity and protection under international law”; He denounces the “complicity” of those who try to “silence” their words, and points out that their decision to take legal actions seeks to help “others not be punished in a similar way for expressing their beliefs about the rights of the Palestinian people.”
The same text indicates that Weller will donate any compensation that receives humanitarian aid efforts in Gaza.
