Paul McCartney previews new album with “Days We Left Behind”

The former member of The Beatles, Paul McCartneywill publish next May 29 a new album, “The Boys Of Dungeon Lane”his first job since “McCartney III” (20). The album is presented as one of his most personal works, in which the musician tenderly reviews episodes from his youth before achieving fame.

The new work shows McCartney in a post-war Liverpool, with memories of absolute introspection towards an unprecedented childhood where the artist alludes to both his family life and his first musical experiences with John Lennon and George Harrison. Indeed, the title of the album refers to the area in which he used to spend time during those years, thus taking us into a “history before history”, years before the phenomenon of Beatlemania.

The origin of the album dates back to 2021, after an informal session with the producer Andrew Wattduring which McCartney discovered a chord progression that would end up shaping “As You Lie There”, the album’s opening song. Following the spirit of his solo debut “McCartney” (70), the musician has once again taken charge of most of the instruments, resulting in a work that combines different registers but maintains the artist’s own identity as a common thread.

“Days We Left Behind” is the piece that advances the album, an intimate and minimalist song in which the musician evokes the days of his adolescence, with a rhythm deeply linked to memory between bars with a charged atmosphere and modest guitars.
