Patti Smith clarifies that he “dizzy” in Brazil

Patti Smith has suffered a small mishap this week acting in San Paulo, Brazil. Last Wednesday, while Smith recited a text accompanied by the music of the Berlin group Soundwalk Collective, she got dizzy and was forced to leave the stage.

Smith has clarified on Instagram that he suffered dizziness because of his migraines but was not passed out, as has been published in various media: «An exaggerated story is being told in the media. I simply suffered dizziness after spending days with migraine. I had a small incident, I retired from the stage and returned 10 minutes later, talked to the people, I clarified that I was well and sang ‘Wings’ and ‘Because The Night’. I was attended by the best doctors and I got fine ».

Smith concludes: «Please, do not give another story as valid. With everything that is happening in the world, this incident is understandable and does not merit so much attention. Thank you all for your concern but I assure you that I am fine ».

As the Brazilian press has told this week, Smith “collapsed” half an hour after the stage, while reciting a text about the climatic crisis. Smith was “wheelchair transferred to the dressing rooms” and then took the stage to apologize: “Unfortunately, I have gotten bad and doctors have told me that I can’t finish the performance.”

In a statement, Soundwalk Collective said that Patti Smith “is being treated by the best doctors” and that it is “tremendously grateful for your patience and for your mercy, and send affection to all those who attended the recital.”
