Outkast’s André 3000 has announced the release of his first solo album. ‘New Blue Sun’ is out this Friday, but it’s not what you expect.
‘New Blue Sun’ is an album inspired by “Laraaji, Brian Eno and Alice Coltrane” and focused on the sound of flutes. The song titles are so long you have to rub your eyes to believe them. The first explains the very reason for the album: “I swear, I wanted to make a rap album but the wind has literally blown me this way this time.”
Another of the inspirations for ‘New Blue Sun’ was an ayahuasca trip by André 3000 in which the rapper “turned into a panther.” ‘New Blue Sun’ is a collection of “flute improvisations” that André 3000 has worked on with percussionist Carlos Niño, keyboardist Surya Botofasina and guitarist Nate Mercereau.
‘New Blue Sun’ will be André 3000’s first full-length album release since the rapper released ‘Idlewild’ with Outkast in 2006. 17 years ago. In recent times, André has released single singles, such as ‘Me&My (To Bury Your Parents)’.
