Ouineta gives hyperpop and bells in the ‘DMs’ bubblegum

Ouineta is the musical project of the Catalan Marta Ros, who, since 2023, has been making herself known with a pop sound close to hyperpop, especially its bubblegum and bright side.

Ouineta’s compositions – created together with producers Juan Feduchi and Pol Clusella – can be as bubbly as that of ‘Messenger’… and as nostalgic: the lyrics of this song are a trip to Ouineta’s adolescence, reminiscent of the posters of Beth and Ronaldinho decorating the walls of their room. Meanwhile, Marta examines her musical personality: “I like ‘Holiday’ by Green Day / but I want to be Avril Lavigne / I like Britney Spears / Hilary, Hilary.”

In the EP that contains ‘Messenger’, ‘Ouineta23’, there is another of the outstanding cuts of Ouineta’s discography, ‘Gorg’, whose title alludes to a stream, not to the Badalona metro stop. Ouineta bathes in the river to clear his head, while in the imaginative production sounds of water, video games or reggaeton passed through the hyperpop filter coexist.

Ouineta has experimented with hip-hop in a song curiously called ‘Bikini Kill’ or with dembow in another of his star singles, ‘Wild’, in which he claims the normalization of bisexuality on a production that samples horse neighing, and that it is as “wild” as its title promises.

And there’s more, because ‘DMs’, Ouineta’s new single, is immediately positioned among the best he has released. It’s the Song of the Day for today, Monday.

‘DMs’ is a pure bubblegum (hyper)pop song that knows how to settle into the current festive context by incorporating sounds of bells. Ouineta only wants one thing for Christmas and that is for his crush to become something more in his life than a fantasy. “I like you so much, so much, so much” is one of those choruses that are etched with fire.

Ouineta is preparing to return to the stage with a new tour during 2025 with confirmed dates at festivals such as Vida (Vilanova i la Geltrú), Embassa’t (Sabadell) and Ítaca (L’Estartit). New dates will be revealed soon.
