The success of Lola Young remembers – and much – Lily Allen or Amy Winehouse, and ‘One Thing’ recovers the spirit of both. Both Lily and Amy merged reggae and hip-hop rhythms, and that is exactly what Lola Young does in ‘One Thing. Solomonophonic, Carter Lang and Manuka (the previous album team) wraps Lola Young in colorful, vibrant and psychedelic sounds.
‘One Thing’ is an openly sexual song, of “Passion without ties”, which leaves nothing to the imagination in verses like “I want to kiss you slowly, I want to fuck you hard, I want to eat you whole.” Some phrases sound forced in their integration of current Internet expressions (“Save that Big-Dick Energy for My Mouth”), but the artistic proposal is refreshing again.
