“Polari” will be a pop album for all ages, as well as the first solo album by Olly Alexanderknown for being the vocalist of Years & Years. The album is inspired by Polari, a coded slang that originated in Europe in the 17th century in the Romani community and which became a secret language used by homosexuals and marginalized people during the 20th century. Alexander discovered this language when he came out and his connection with the Polari intensified when he played Richie in “It’s A Sin”which explores themes of identity, self-expression and community. Issues that have always arisen in British society and that have been present in the history of pop music, you just had to know where to look.
The album will include the songs “Polari”, “Cupid’s Bow”, “Know”, “Shadow Of Love”, “Make Me A Man”, “Dizzy”, “Archangel”, “Miss You So Much”, “When We Kiss “, “Whisper”, “Beautiful”, “Heal You” “Language”
