On October 18th, Pedro Almodóvar’s first feature film, ‘The Room Next Door’, is released. It is shot entirely in English and is based on the novel by Sigrid Nunez. It stars Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore in the lead roles. Both appear in the first official trailer for ‘The Room Next Door’, released today.
According to the official synopsis, ‘The Next Room’ tells the story of “a deeply flawed mother and a resentful daughter torn apart by a huge misunderstanding.” Swinton plays the mother, a war reporter, and Moore plays a close friend, a writer and “a repository of both their pain and bitterness.”
“The film speaks of the boundless cruelty of war, of the very different ways in which the two writers approach and write about reality, it speaks of death, friendship and sexual pleasure as the best allies in the fight against horror,” the text continues. “And it also speaks of the sweet awakening to the chirping of birds, in a house built in the middle of a nature reserve in New England, where the two friends live an extreme and strangely sweet situation.”
The official ‘The Next Room’ poster was revealed a few weeks ago:
‘The Room Next Door’ will be Almodóvar’s first film since the release of ‘Madres separadoras’ in 2021. We discussed it then in the Revelación o timo podcast dedicated to the director from La Mancha.
