Justice released Hyperdrama this year, one of their best albums. And it seems that the public agrees with this statement: 8 of Justice’s 10 most popular songs on Spotify right now belong to Hyperdrama, an album that came out months ago, in April. The public can’t get enough of the two collaborations with Tame Impala.
‘One Night/All Night’ was the introductory single for this new era of Justice. But it’s ‘Neverender’, the other collaboration with Kevin Parker, that’s currently the most popular: Justice’s #1 song on Spotify right now.
On today’s Song Of The Day, Justice introduces Tame Impala not as a “featuring” but as the star: “Neverender starring Tame Impala.” In an interview with JENESAISPOP, Justice is full of praise for the Australian: “Kevin Parker is very talented as a songwriter and producer, but what strikes us about his music is that it seems simple, but it’s not.” Justice talks in detail about ‘Neverender’ revealing that, during the recording of this song, (Parker) drove us crazy because he used a note that didn’t fit us, but then, mixed with the music, it made perfect sense.
‘Neverender’ is the perfect introduction to an album that features Justice’s familiar electro sound but polished and stylized to the max. ‘Neverender’s’ sleek synths and disco beat sculpt a futuristic, galactic sound; the song sounds like Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé piloting a spaceship headed for the stars. They, on the other hand, know how to build and relieve tension on ‘Neverender’ by repeatedly cutting and reintroducing the base.
Adding to the electronic blast of ‘Neverender’ is Kevin Parker, contributing his famous falsetto. The vocal melody of ‘Neverender’ is 100% Tame Impala, and so are the lyrics: Parker is regretful and suffering. “I should have been honest,” “the pain in my heart I remember as the sharpest,” “regret is the feeling that takes the longest to go away,” “bad times are the ones I don’t forget.” Fortunately, Justice know how to turn “hyperdrama” into pure escapism.
