My Morning Jacket They have gone through different stages throughout their career, from the most experimental to the most classic. Now, with their new single “Time Waited” they begin a more nostalgic time than ever.
“Time Waited” is the song that My Morning Jacket uses to announce what will be their next album, titled simply “es” and that will see the light through ATO Records. In the absence of listening to the new album in its entirety, everything indicates that it will be their most melancholic album at a lyrical level, although maintaining that sound between Americana and soul that has been characterizing them in recent years.
This first single is produced by Brendan O’Brien and accompanied by a video clip directed by Danny Clinch. The song talks about “eternal love, splashing the spirit of romanticism and nostalgia for the intrinsic fragility of love.” It arose from some piano chords taken from the classic album by virtuoso Buddy Emmons, “Emmons Guitar Inc”. “I looped that piano intro and listened to it while I was out for a walk, and all these melodies started coming to me,” says Jim James, My Morning Jacket’s vocalist and guitarist. “For a long time I didn’t have lyrics, but then I had a dream where I was in a coffee shop and a song came on, and the lyrics to that song became the lyrics to “Time Waited.”
