Did you miss Muse? One of the most successful rock groups in history is back, three years after the launch of his latest album, the disappointing ‘Will of the People’ (2022). ‘Unravelling’, the first advance of his tenth album, does not talk about politics, but of love. Or heartbreak, rather.
The hope of what it could be, but it will never be, marks the path of ‘unraveling’. In the lyrics, singer Matt Bellamy describes a “non -enlightened script,” alluding to a story that never began, and compares his love with a “anthem without a throne or God.” Bellamy is an “insect caught in amber”; His awakening makes him realize that the “sky is a lie.”
The romantic tragedy of ‘unraveling’ chooses a hybrid shape that mixes science fiction sound band synthesizers and heavy metal guitars. The song catches from the melodic first stanza, then the chorus Jevi shakes the listener through the air, and both sounds progressively join in the song, until they give way to the epic only of the final guitar.
Not only the voice of Bellamy, who continues to extend the syllables to infinity, especially in the chorus, but also the percussions of Dom Howard and, above all, the bass of Chris Wolstenholme, build an attractive first muse single that skillfully mixes two of his facets, pop and metal. It is no revolution in his career, but, as a muse song, it works.
