The MTV Europe Music Awards, also known as EMAs, have been canceled due to the “volatility of world events.” This was announced by Paramount Global in a statement issued this afternoon.
The new edition of the EMAs was going to be held on November 5 at the Paris Nord Villepinte in France. However, the conflict between Israel and Gaza, which is involving countries around the world, has been reason enough to cancel its celebration. A few days ago, France had raised the alert for an attack after the murder of a teacher at the hands of an Islamist in the north of the country.
Sabrina Carpenter, Ozuna, David Guetta and Jung Kook were some of the artists confirmed to perform during the gala. Additionally, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and SZA were among the most nominated artists of the night. With the question of whether or not there will be an announcement of winners, MTV has already confirmed that the ceremony will not be rescheduled and that the EMAs will wait until November 2024.
«Given the volatility of global events, we have decided not to move forward with the 2023 MTV EMAs out of caution towards the thousands of employees, team members, artists, fans and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to life. As we watch the devastating events unfold in Israel and Gaza, it does not seem like the time for a global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a time for mourning. “We hope to host the MTV EMAs again in November 2024.”
