Very special edition of Etnosur the one that comes to us from July 18-21 in Alcalá La Real. This year MondoSonoro is the first-person protagonist when receiving the Etnosu Awardr, the distinction that the festival usually gives to recognise a career in favour of music, culture and the humanities. We will celebrate to the rhythm of artists such as Oumou Sangaré, Pongo, Queralt Lahoz and Systema Solar.
At the doors of our 30th Anniversary, we couldn’t start the celebration in a better way. Receiving the Etnosur Award has a double value for us. First, the honour of joining an excellent list of award winners who have preceded us. And second, and no less important, having the recognition of a festival that has walked hand in hand with us since its first edition. Etnosur is one of those emblematic brands of our scene, the one we are proud to have promoted over these three decades. Thank you Etnosur, we will be in Alcalá la Real from 18 to 21 July to collect it and enjoy an even more special edition of the festival.
Artists from five different countries make up the EtnoSur 2024 line-up
Etnosur is a confluence of origins with a common destiny: to celebrate the cultural wealth of the planet. Among the best ambassadors of the moment is undoubtedly the Malian Oumou Sangaré. She is one of the most recognized figures in Africa today, both for her powerful voice and for her activism in favor of women’s rights and social justice. In her lyrics, she addresses issues such as child marriage, female genital mutilation and other practices that affect the lives of women in Mali. Sangaré’s music fuses traditional Wassoulou sounds, which often include the kamele n’goni (a type of harp), with more contemporary schemes.
He also recognizes that his music is positioned in the Lisbon trench, although he was born in Angola. Put. Innovative in terms of her most current musical proposal, she comes to review the concepts of Afro-Portuguese dance music such as Kuduro, Semba or Kizomba. Her famous “Wegue, wegue” positioned her on the charts and put her in the spotlight but without forgetting the background that she got from growing up in the slums of Lisbon and her African roots.
Etnosur also looks to the Caribbean and Latin America and to those movements that combine tradition and avant-garde. The Colombians Solar System and the Peruvians Hit The Rose will make the audience dance with their tropical psychedelia while Awake will bring music of Jamaican origin.
At that crossroads Queralt Lahoz She feels more and more comfortable. After her revealing Purity and that great interlude called High sky The Catalan singer has released a series of singles where electronic music sheds light on this always personal and honest discourse.
Dutch people Jungle by Night They will move us with sounds that oscillate between jazz, afrobeat and pop. We will sing the fusion of Andalusian rock and flamenco Seville Distortion and we will discover new sounds with Lord.Cah Childone of those artists that are difficult to pigeonhole. He will also take to the main stage at EtnoSur Miguel Campello.
This entire program takes place on that already well-known and marked route through the town of Alcalá La Real and goes from the Town Hall Square to the Etnosur Complex with an obligatory stop at the chill out area of Paseo de los Alamos.
