Atlantic Records is experiencing a summer of changes. After the departure of Ed Sheeran, who this year signed a new contract with Interscope, the label has secured a top-level signing: Miley Cyrus. The artist leaves Columbia Records, the house that has accompanied her since 2021 and with which she has published hits like ‘Flowers’, the biggest of her career.
Miley’s recording career has been marked by label changes. Her first releases came under the umbrella of Disney, where the Hannah Montana phenomenon boosted her solo career and left classics like ‘Party in the USA’. In 2013 he took a creative turn when he signed with RCA, where he released the explosive ‘Bangerz’, among others. In 2020 he released ‘Plastic Hearts’, still on RCA, before switching internally to Columbia, a label on which ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ (2023) and ‘Something Beautiful’ (2025) have appeared.
None of these stages has fully crystallized into a particularly solid discography, despite the numerous successes scattered along the way. ‘Plastic Hearts’ is probably their best album, while ‘Something Beautiful’ came wrapped in the promise of an ambitious concept album that, in practice, never finished developing a clear concept. JENESAISPOP readers, however, voted it among the best albums of its year.
The change of label now opens the question about the sound of this new stage. Cyrus has just given an interview to Wonderland on the occasion of a special issue that she co-created with creative director Alastair McKimm. The publication brings together artists close to her universe such as Dolly Parton, Noah Cyrus, Kelela, Lykke Li, Sky Ferreira, 070 Shake, Towa Bird or Suzanne Vega.
In the interview, Cyrus explains that she continues to be guided by intuition when creating: “I love feeling aligned with my purpose, my power, and my gifts. I feel closer to something bigger than myself when the discs flow through me. It’s almost impossible to describe. It’s like waking up from a dream that you can still feel in your body even though you can’t explain it logically. “Composing songs is sometimes like crossing to the other side.”
Atlantic thus adds Miley to a catalog that includes Bruno Mars, Charli XCX, Cardi B, Kehlani, Burna Boy and Lizzo.
