Miley Cyrus announces ‘Bass Persuades’: date, tracklist and teaser

Dropping your last name is almost a cliché when a pop star ushers in a new era. Janet did it, Britney did it and now it seems it’s Miley Cyrus’ turn, who has started introducing herself simply as Miley. It was clear that something was about to happen: ‘Bass Persuades’, the new album by the American artist, will be available on September 18.

It seems that Miley’s new era will once again have a fairly important experimental side within the pop framework, judging by the small preview that the artist has left on her Instagram. In this, the singer appears playing the guitar while an industrial rock instrumental plays in which the bass is the protagonist. Of course, right after the song becomes something closer to pop.

The collaborators of ‘Bass Persuades’ also give many clues about their sound. Model/Actress, whose album ‘Pirouette’ proved to be one of last year’s standout releases, will be on the song ‘Different Religion’. On the other hand, producer and singer Andrew Wyatt will accompany Miley on ‘Neon Signs’.

The artist clarifies in the official tracklist, visible on streaming platforms, that Wyatt belongs to the band Miike Snow, but in recent years he has worked mainly as a producer for world-class artists, from Miley herself to Lady Gaga, Lorde or Bruno Mars, among many others.

«Music takes over us. We feel it, we sing it, sometimes we dance, we give it our all and continue. She is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong. The full heart, the broken heart and all the parts of life in between. That’s what the title means to me,” the artist explained in her Instagram post.

Miley Cyrus will perform ‘Bass Persuades’ with two exclusive nights at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, on October 16 and 18.

Tracklist:

1. Bass Persuades
2. Different Religion (with Model/Actress)
3. Let’s Get Married
4. Orbit
5. Aftermath
6. REDLIGHTS
7. Neon Signs (featuring Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow)
8. Innocent Ways
9. Snow
10. Bass Persuades Remixx

There were already clues: Cyrus had published photographs of her face with a red filter and her new era was already appearing in newspapers, with posters sent along with copies of the Los Angeles Times. All of this comes just a few days after the death of Dolly Parton, her godmother and one of the most important people in her life.

The return comes just a year after ‘Something Beautiful’, their previous album, and will be their first album for Atlantic Records, after more than a decade under the Sony Music umbrella, first with RCA and then with Columbia. ‘Something Beautiful’ was a resounding flop, far from the numbers expected from a star of Miley’s size.

Miley already spoke briefly about this album in an interview with Wondaland published on July 27. He defined it as “a love story”, although not exclusively romantic: self-love and a feeling of peace are some of the themes that run through his last three albums. The album will feature her fiancé Maxx Morando among its collaborators.
