Michael Stipe (REM) performs on television backed by a super band

Michael Stipeknown for having been the vocalist of REMhas appeared on the American show Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform the song “I Played The Fool”, and he has done so backed by a luxury band.

“I Played The Fool” was released a few months ago as part of the soundtrack of the HBO series “Rooster”. It was one of the songs that Stipe had presented since REM broke up in 2011. In the studio, the drums were recorded by Travis Barker of Blink-182, who has not appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel show, but there is no need for him to do so if we look at the luxury line-up that supported him in this appearance.

And, along with Stipe and the musician and producer Andrew Watt, they appeared on stage Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Josh Klinghoffer (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam), Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens Of The Stone Age) and Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction). Next to nothing.

The song joins others like “The Rest Of Ever”, also presented on television, facing Stipe’s current moment, which will materialize in a few months in his long-awaited first solo album, an album he has been working on for several years.

Regardless, Stipe’s friendship with his former REM bandmates continues, but that doesn’t mean any of them are interested in reviving the group beyond a very special occasion like their performance at the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in 2024.
