MIA denounces Kid Cudi for kicking her off his tour

A month has passed since Kid Cudi kicked MIA off his tour for a series of “offensive comments” that the artist included in her concerts and that caused “an avalanche of messages from fans upset by her speeches.” Now, the artist has filed a complaint against the rapper for breach of contract.

MIA accuses Kid Cudi of knowing in advance her beliefs and political reputation before hiring her as an opening act on his new tour. This caused an “intentional interference with contractual relationships” that caused “Live Nation to break its contract.” MIA alleges that this resulted in the initial $2.8 million guarantee not being paid.

As you begin to read the document, collected by Pitchfork, the rapper is accused that “MIA was eliminated to generate publicity for the tour, which has had difficulties with ticket sales.” The lawsuit states that the artist was “allowed to say whatever she wanted on stage” and that she “holds Kid Cudi responsible for the destruction of her contractual rights, business opportunities and reputation.”

In addition to the initial guaranteed amount, MIA is seeking $75,000 in compensatory damages and coverage of its attorneys’ fees and costs, in addition to a jury trial.
