Men I Trust, the Canadian band, has reinvented the soft-rock for a new generation. He has especially conquered his album ‘Oncle Jazz’ (2019), also very popular on YouTube, and his 2018 ‘Show Me How’ adds more than 630 million streamings only on Spotify.
Men I Trust – Trío formed by Emmanuelle Proulx, Jessy Caron and Dragos Chiriac- you will like if you like tops, cigarettes after sex or the extinct Tennis, although surely you already knew if you are among its 9 million listeners. His style is a friend of the Dream-pop and his melodies are as lethargic as it is catchy. ‘Numb’ is another of his popular themes. This was described by Raúl Guillén in 2019: “It’s as if Ariel Pink made a song for Jeanette.”
As you will know, the Quebec trio has just published ‘Equus Caballus’, his second album in two months. The first, ‘Equus Asinus’, was launched in March and contained jewels such as ‘I eat with mud’. This time, the single to stand out from Men I Trust is ‘Come Back Down’, which we chose as the song of the day Thursday.
On a simple but evocative battery base, keyboard and bass, Men I Trust build one of their dreams and comforting pieces. Emmanuelle’s melody is irresistible in the chorus, in which he begs: “Rangle me more, open me / say something sweet,” that you get out of your heart ” / I feel so tired, I will not ask if it is true / I know my rest, I gave something new.” Emmanuelle desperately seeks a hug that comforts her, and that offers this tender song.
The comparison with Jeanette is also appropriate in ‘Come Back Down’, whose sound remembers that of ‘The boy with sad eyes’, recently versioned by Selena Gomez and The Marías.
