Austra, the pop project of the Canadian vocalist and composer Katie Stelmanis, returns with a new album. ‘Chin Up Buttercup’ will go on sale on November 14. At the moment, the first single, a hypnotic dance piece entitled ‘Math Equation’, is now available.
Stelmanis says that she and her co -producer Kieran Adams were inspired by the Eurodance sound of the emblematic ‘Ray of Light’ by Madonna. However, ‘Math Equation’ sounds rather as the back of ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’ by Kylie Minogue, because it has a very similar base, only that in this case the “obsession” has a clearly bitter taste. It is our song of the day this Thursday.
Devotee of the opera and with four albums thrown throughout his career, Stelmanis experienced devastation for the first time in early 2020, when his lifelong partner confessed from one day to another that was not happy: “I never saw her again,” says the artist. That is why ‘Chin Up Buttercup’ takes this title: “It’s my emotional demonic alter ego,” he writes on his Instagram.
The letters are also impregnated with the pain resulting from Austra’s break. In ‘Math Equation’ this is clearly seen: “You said I needed my own friends, so I found them, and then you screwed them,” he sings.
The name of the theme comes that Katie feels “subtracted” or “subtracted” of the “equation” represented by the couple. “One and one do not add three,” repeat the chorus, which then adds: “Who will be the one who stays with you?” We leave you with the album tracklist and with the video, of type «series B».
