Robert Del Naja, leader of Massive Attack, was arrested this past weekend in London after attending a massive pro-Palestinian protest. The goal was to speak out against the banning of Palestine Action and, like 500 other people, Del Naja was arrested for this very reason.
“I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action,” read the sign of the Massive Attack member. At the moment of his arrest, the people around him begin to shout of joy and encouragement, while several agents grab Del Naja by the legs and armpits. As he is being taken away, a man asks him why they are arresting him: “They are arresting me illegally,” he clarifies.
Just a few days ago, in an interview with the Press Association, Del Naja saw a possible arrest coming at the demonstration: “If I am arrested, I am confident that I will go to trial with the proper guidance and I will say: This has been an illegal arrest and, therefore, I do not accept it.” He described the “actions of Palestine Action” as “highly patriotic”: “We are protecting our country from being involved in serious war crimes and breaking international law.”
