Martin clings to his ‘New Memories’ and Hidrogenesse

Martin Urrutia will release his debut album in early 2026. The first preview was ‘Nadadora’, a surprising version of Family. The second, ‘New memories’, follows Urrutia’s collaboration with the Barcelona duo Hidrogenesse, who produced the entire album.

‘New memories’ is the first original composition that presents the project and the introduction to an album “quite varied, which has a little of everything, slower songs and other dance songs”, and which will follow a “digital and video game” aesthetic, according to Urrutia in an interview on Cadena Ser.

That style of video game inspires the sound of ‘New Memories’, which uses 8bit-type effects, and also informs the concept of the song. In ‘New Memories’, Martin captures memories in the form of “amulets” that he accumulates to stay alive. These memories are in the form of everyday objects – blackberries, towels, wounds – that Martin turns into emotional treasures. But they are not permanent memories, but rather they change, like someone who goes from one video game screen to the next.

‘New memories’ is 100% Hidrogenesse, also a little Mecano, those of the first three albums, in its optimistic musical style and happy rhythm, and above all it recalls the style of the authors of ‘Animalitos’ (2007) or the music of Stella Maris (2024) its meticulous melodic composition and, above all, its narrative and everyday lyrics, almost a current of thought, free but more meditated than it seems. He plays bass on the song Laura Antolín by Doble Pletina.

The ‘New Memories’ concept has been taken to the next level with the creation of a digital avatar representing Martin, called MUNO, which serves as the project’s ‘mascot’.
