Marisa Paredes died today, December 17, at the age of 78, reports the Spanish Film Academy. Paredes was one of Pedro Almodóvar’s favorite actresses, who directed the Madrid native in ‘High heels’ (1991), ‘La flor de mi secreto’ (1995), ‘All about my mother’ (1999), ‘Talk to her ‘ (2002) or ‘The skin I live in’ (2010). Chema Prado, Paredes’ widower, has confirmed that the actress died this morning of cardiac arrest.
Among the notable roles of Paredes – born in 1946 – in the cinema, apart from Almodóvar, is ‘Opera debut’ (1980) by Fernando Trueba, the film that launched her career on the big screen. From there came notable international roles such as ‘Life is Beautiful’ (1997) by Roberto Benigni or ‘Profundo Crimesí’ (1996) by Arturo Ripstein.
Paredes, great lady of auteur cinema, debuted in acting in the 1960s, and also developed a prolific career in television and, to a lesser extent, theater. Paredes appeared in countless series and programs on Spanish Television during the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s and, recently, had played a role in ‘Vestidas de azul’ (2023), the sequel to ‘Veneno’.
From 2000 to 2003, she was president of the Spanish Film Academy. And lately, he had generated headlines for his political statements, for example, those in which he described Isabel Díaz-Ayuso not in the most flattering terms.
This same month of April, Paredes appeared at an event in support of Pedro Sánchez, along with Miguel Ríos; Sánchez was about to announce his permanence in the Government.
