Marina Domínguez is not a soloist, but a quartet of girls from Zaragoza that started doing something like “pop for friends” using everyday songs, catchy choruses, humor and a little bit of misandry.
After their first EP, ‘Todas a chica’, they are about to release a second EP that, without losing its sass, addresses somewhat more complex conflicts and the contradictions of being a girl in her twenties. Produced by Carasueño and mastered by Javier Roldón, the project has already left samples such as the ramonero punk-rock of ‘AA Ana Psiccología’.
Those who have followed them for songs like ‘Chándal Amarillo’ and that nice keyboard, or even for curiosities like their cumbia with Rosin de Palo, will find in ‘Everywhere’ a more guitar-driven and also more melodic Marina Domínguez.
Today’s Song Of The Day talks about that moment of delirium when, after a breakup, you see your ex everywhere, even though your life has already moved on. “I do my thing, and I have fallen in love again, / I keep your vinyl, a ghost in the hallway, / this winter has not been cold and I just remembered,” they sing, between nostalgia and acceptance.
Marina Domínguez’s typical keyboard-organ also appears here, but this time as a prelude to guitars that grow until they roar fiercely in the chorus. The initial melancholy ends up becoming a kind of relief, making ‘Everywhere’ one of the most mature and guitar-driven previews of that next EP.
