Manic Street Preachers announce album of “opposites colliding”

Manic Street Preachers have a new album ready. ‘Critical Thinking’, which would already be their 15th album, will be available starting January 31, 2025. The announcement of the LP comes along with ‘Hiding In Plain Sight’, the band’s first single sung by the bassist and lyricist Nicky Wire. The lead single from the new album, on the other hand, was the euphoric ‘Decline & Fall’.

After ‘The Ultra Vivid Lament’ in 2021, the British band already has its successor ready. The group itself has described it as “an album of opposites colliding, of dialecticians trying to find the way to a solution.” The cover, which shows a lonely road in a desert landscape, is the work of photographer David Hurn, “a colossus of modern documentary photography.”

About ‘Hiding In Plain Sight’, the band says that it is inspired by “classic rock from the 70s” and that it draws on a “terrible nostalgia for middle age.” “The man I used to be, in a decade when I felt free,” Wire sings on the track.

Nicky Wire played lead singer for the first time on some songs on the 2001 album ‘Know Your Enemy’. In addition, he has contributed to many others, such as ‘Send Away The Tigers’ or the classic ‘Your Love Alone Is Not Enough’.
