Magdalena Bay continue without fail in the vintage ‘This Is The World’

Just over a year after the wonderful ‘Imaginal Disk’, Magdalena Bay still hasn’t taken a wrong step. Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin have released a whopping 8 songs in the last two months, two at a time and without prior notice. “Just let the good times roll,” they write on Instagram. ‘This Is The World (I Made It For You)’ is the Song of the Day.

All the songs they have released in this period have been different from each other, and complementary at the same time. In the case of ‘This Is The World’ and ‘Nice Day’, the link is in the use of guitars. Magdalena Bay have also clarified that this is the “final couple.” And it couldn’t end in a better way.

‘This Is The World (I Made It For You)’ is a classic song in which there are not as many synthesizers as in the rest of the duo’s compositions. The bells of the chorus, catchy as hell, take us back to the doo woop of the 50s and early 60s. The duo continues to maintain their experimental vein in rare moments, but they are implemented in a subtle way, like the powerful synth that bursts in after the first chorus.

The lyrics choose the cryptic route, but remain enjoyable. “I try to smile / I’ll give my best performance yet,” Tenenbaum sings in the first verse. The chorus, on the other hand, could be about a relationship, whether romantic (“Now what you have to do is show me real love and affection”) or the artist with his art: “This is the world / I made it for you / Now what I have to do is lose a bit of paranoia.”
