While the rumors about Madonna’s new album do not stop – the latest points to a single scheduled for this month – recent news unexpectedly takes us to her canceled biopic, announced in 2021 and abandoned in 2022.
Now, Madonna will give new life to that failed project in ‘The Studio’, Seth Rogen’s series for Apple TV+ that satirizes the film industry from within. Madonna was recently seen filming alongside Julia Garner, the actress originally chosen to play her in that biopic that never materialized. She even uploaded a video of the two of them together recreating the music video for ‘Like a Virgin’, the meaning of which we now discover.
‘The Studio’ will revive Madonna’s biopic, but with a twist: instead of faithfully recreating what happened, the series presents an alternative reality in a comedic way. According to Variety, ‘The Studio’ rewrites history and imagines that the film about Madonna was made, this time under the umbrella of the fictitious Continental Studios, the main studio of the series. In this universe, the project even reaches the Venice Film Festival as a great premiere, with Madonna and Garner participating in its promotion and generating expectations of awards.
According to the aforementioned portal, the plot will turn the failed biopic into a satire on Hollywood that will make fun of apparently absurd details such as the duration of ovations at festivals. Additionally, in this fictional version, Madonna is not cast as the film’s director, another change from her real plans.
Her participation, which will span two episodes, is especially striking: Madonna has not appeared in a television series since her cameo in ‘Will & Grace’ in 2003, nor has she starred in a film since ‘Swept Away’ in 2002.
