Madonna plays a country version of ‘Express Yourself’

Madonna’s ‘Celebration Tour’ continues, these days passing through the United States, after Christmas. In Boston, on the first of two dates held in the city, Madonna has surprised the audience by singing for the first time since the premiere of the tour one of the songs that had been missed the most in the setlist, ‘Express Yourself ‘, which until now had only been heard briefly inserted in the ‘Billie Jean’ and ‘Like a Virgin’ section.

Madonna has recovered ‘Express Yourself’ during the acoustic section of the show, previously dedicated for example to versions such as Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I Will Survive’, performed during the start of the tour in Europe, also in Barcelona; and, still dressed as a cowgirl, she has given her 1989 classic a country touch, transforming it into the “sing along” of the evening.

‘Celebration Tour’, on the other hand, has once again included celebrities for the voguing section of the tour. In Boston, Maggie Rogers, well known for her hit ‘Alaska’, allowed herself to be spanked by one of the show’s dancers. In Spain, Arca sat in the judges’ chair next to Madonna, on the first date, and, on the second, Úrsula Corberó.

Today January 11 and tomorrow the 12th, Madonna presents ‘Celebration Tour’ in Canada. Meanwhile, the success of ‘Popular’, The Weeknd’s collaboration with Madonna and Playboi Carti, continues, now being Madonna’s most played song on Spotify.

In 2024, Madonna has other things to celebrate, as both her single ‘Like a Virgin’ and the self-titled album that contains it, as well as of course her legendary performance that year at the MTV Video Music Awards, celebrate their 40th anniversary this year.
